Just a little video of my fave lil’ girl. No rules today! It’s Sunday (well maybe not when you watch this)!

You will possibly not understand this one until you have kids yourself, but here goes anyway. When it was just me and your Mommy, life was relatively straightforward. I love her, she loves me. Simple! Now, both your Mum and myself have to divide our attention, and our love, between two people. Let’s say your mother comes home from a crap day at work, she wants to cuddle with me but I am frazzled because you got sick and in between my home office tasks I had to take care of you. Now we are both in a bad mood… And you are still sick!

I promise that I will try my best (and so will your Mommy) to use that moment to find strength. To help each other out of our funk. Just do me one favor, try not to throw up while this is going on.

This one is for when you are a little older… Maybe a young adult, or when you are 40…

Have you ever heard the “If not you then who. If not now then when” Blah Blah Blah… I usually don’t agree. I mean, come on! Just because you don’t want to do you job, why should it be tagged on to my curriculum? Huh? But there is one instance where the “If not you then who, if not now then when?” mantra hold totally true. You see, the children of this world deserve your smile.  I strongly believe that the children of today are our future. However, some of them, are not as loved as you… They don’t see adults (or young adults, like you will be in a few years) smile at them. If we don’t smile at the children we see, who will? All children of the world deserve that we smile at them. If we don’t, is the only smile they see today the one in the mirror? And what if they are hungry, can’t make the fair to take the bus to school? Will they have anything to smile about?

We owe it to all children in the world to smile! Go on, put on that happy face, and make a kid happy today!

Do what you love and love what you do. It doesn’t matter whether it is serving fries with that hamburger or working on world peace. Your path in life should be the one that you are passionate about. If you want to be a doctor and heal people, don’t be playing one on TV.  At the same time, if you want to make people laugh, try playing a doctor on TV. But always be true to your passion. You will be most successful if you follow your dreams, if you do what you love and love what you do.

Don’t let pride get in the way. Some things we have to do in life are tough. Some are simply impossible without the aid of others. You can always ask for help. You should never feel too proud to do so. Don’t be lazy, I mean… You can probably put the groceries away by yourself, you don’t need your neighbor for that every time. But if you really need help, you need to ask. Never be above letting others assist you. Some things we can’t do alone, we shouldn’t be doing alone… But your friends might not always recognize you need them. Just ask, it’s what they are there for.

While your mother looks entirely sexy — A quality I don’t want you obtain until you are 83 — in my lounge pants, the fact is that for the foreseeable future you walking around (if that is already even an option) in my PJ bottoms will only lead to accidents. Let’s face it, you and I do not share a like sized frame. So the answer is no, you can’t wear those pants, they are MINE! Side note, your Mom seems to think she owns all my sleepwear.

Having said that, should you ever get a boyfriend* (which as stated before, not until you are 83) you can judge his love for you by his willingness to give you the piece of fabric he sleeps in.

* Or girlfriend as the case may be.

Whether you are late for school, got that important job interview, your flight leaves in two minutes, you are in between sets in your championship tennis match, I have a conference call in 30 seconds, your mom is late for work, the world is coming to an end as we speak… There is never a better time for a hug than now! Even if you just got arrested for smoking pot in the high school parking lot (we’ll deal with those charges later) you have got to give me a hug! And eat your vegetables, but more important is that hug!

It’s that time of the year again, here in the USA anyway, where people sit down and — brought on by this holiday that is meaningless in the rest of the universe — count their blessings.  I even read someone asking “What parts of Memphis are you thankful for?” You’ll get to know me pretty well over the coming years, and will know that I complain more than is good for me. So if I just drove over a pothole, busting a tire/tyre, don’t ask me what part of this concrete jungle I live in I am thankful for! While East Memphis is a “good” part of town, it’s by no means a “good looking” part of town.

But there are things I will forever be grateful for. Meeting your Mom is one of them. But the best gift of all is you my girl! And you, in turn, should be thankful and feel blessed. You are a product of love, and will forever be loved.  You had me at hello, which (in all honesty) in your case sounded more like “Weh!” And you will have me (and your mother too) whenever you need.
